ST. JOHN'S (October 6, 2010) - The organizers of the annual Targa Newfoundland international auto rally will make their resources and their network of volunteers, supporters and competitors available to help generate much-needed funds for Hurricane Igor relief.

The 9th annual Targa Newfoundland had just wrapped up when Hurricane Igor swept through the southern and eastern regions of the Island, wreaking devastation through areas like the Burin and Bonavista peninsulas, where Targa cars had run just days before.

"The people in these communities are our friends, our fans and our partners. Through their support and their efforts, they've helped Targa Newfoundland and our province become known around the world," explains Targa organizer Robert Giannou. "Now we will ask their friends - here and around the world - for their support when it is needed most."

"The kind of relief that will be needed to make these communities whole again will have to come from beyond our island. We need to reach out to friends and supporters across Canada and around the world, and Targa helps us do that," adds Mark Brown, District Governor of Rotary for Newfoundland. The North West Rotary is coordinating several area relief efforts, and will deliver the funds to the Canadian Red Cross office in St. John's.

Donations can be made to Rotary Club of St. John's North West by credit card: Please provide card type, number, expiry date and donation amount.
